It's ALIVE!

Post  Niels on Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:04 pm

Aren't my chickens starving nicely? Look how they turn thin, then lose their plumage, leaving sorry, bald creatures crawling on their last strength, before leaving just a skeleton and fading away.

They still violate the laws of physics (for which they will be punished severely), can't grow up and die at the same time, and they seem to have epileptic episodes.

Is this enough of a creation to call myself a "Loving God"?

(There's no evolution yet. Patience please; Everything in due time. Remember that Yahweh took 10 billion years before even creating the earth, let alone life. I might really do it in a week.)

Haha, that's amazing! I can't wait for your masterpiece, which will show the entire evolutionary tree. You will display the 4.6 billion years of evolution in one flash animation. Your work will then receive the Nobel Prize, and the Nobel Peace Prize! The peace prize is for ending all religious wars, for you proved Evolution 100%, and nobody could deny it. Neils will forever be remembered among the greats, such as Gandhi, Malcom X, MLK, John Locke, Isaac Newton, Epicurus, and Adolf Hitler.

Good luck my friend, and it was an honor to meet you!

So, in your divinely inspired posts, when you say that you created it in 6 days is that going to be literal days? ...Or is it going to be literal only up until the point where someone proves that you didn't in fact (and couldn't of) program it in 6 days, to then just shift the goalposts, and reveal that "oh no, it really means 6 celestial days, duh!" - as a get out of jail free card. (Not that there even is such a thing as a 'celestial day').

:-P

haha nice work so far mate, looking forward to the update & final release!

I'm going to miss my 6-day deadline. No shifting of goalposts for me: I simply FAILED.

Virtual Reality has been against me. First, I created a species that devolved over time. At first I thought I had disproven evolution - but it turned out to be a compiler-bug, rounding down the health of my poor creatures. They were fighting an uphill battle against a float/integer conversion.

Then the debate between my compiler and me became more philosophical: Should a Duck be defined as a Shape, a Sprite, a Bitmap or a MovieClip? Turns out a duck is all of the above. Like religion, a duck is not easily defined. A duck now evolves from an image to a bitmap to another bitmap to a sprite to a movieclip before even entering reality.

I'm getting more and more respect for those who create universes.

(I discovered that the second law of thermodynamics is the perfect way to keep the simulation within limits of processor- and memory use. Perhaps that's why God is so strict on that bloody law: He doesn't want to crash his computer...)

Mwaha! It is not easily defined!

All I have to say is HURRY UP! The world needs your simulation for global peace! Neils, it all depends on you!

I've replaced the animation in my first post with a new one. The ducks die much nicer now: They lose their tail feathers first and get a bald patch on their heads. They keep going balder and balder. When hunger continues, they get completely bald, lose the power to walk, and then turn into a skeleton before fading away.

There's males and females now: The brown ones are females. Those are the ones that lay eggs, promote overpopulation and make virtual reality a living hell for everybody - as women have evolved to do.

There is evolution going on. Natural selection will lead to ever faster ducks, if they get the chance. Chances are that the females die out before evolution really starts, leaving a prosperous and peaceful male society behind.

@Dont-vote-Palin: I'm afraid this is not going to solve our problems, not even when it's finished. I've only managed to put yet another selfish, sad species onto the world that can't wait to die out.

Oh well, it's just bloody ducks. Let's not get sentimental.

(The animation is best viewed in its own window. The link below works for FireFox; if it doesn't work in Internet Explorer, then download a decent browser.

Announcement: Niels has given up... =(

Anyway, great job with the animations. This one was a great improvement, and it was funny watching so many ducks scramble around for a limited food supply. Just add some humans, a Credit Default Swap market, and you can have a real economy going!

No way! The idea to save humanity was yours, not mine. If I could have saved it on the way, then I might have... but right now, I can't be bothered.

The goal of my animation is to clarify sexual selection, and I have not given up on that. Evolution is already at work in the animation; all I have to do now is add sex.

I feel a bit sorry for my ducks. After starvation and war, I'm going to bring them the worst of all evils: Sex. It's immoral and cruel, but then again, it's for science. The ducks should be proud to suffer for that noble purpose.

I've added a more humane form of population control. Just click any duck to relieve the suffering.

What?

Post  JagermeisterV on Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:34 pm

How does this show evolution. All this shows is carrying capacity, which is what people are working up too. eventually birth rates and death rates are the same.
